The ancient city of Suryapur better known as Surat, has gained importance not only for being India’s primary natural port but also for being the administrative and commercial capital of the Indian state of Gujarat during the Mughal Rule. A fast growing city situated on the banks of the Tapti River (Tapi), in the capital of Surat, the highlighting feature of the city is the presence of a moat that divides the ancient areas of the city marked by its congested and narrow streets from the more modern and recently built ones. As per the 10+2+3 scheme of education the students attend primary and secondary school during the first ten years and then may complete two years of higher secondary education, followed by three years at college. The majority of the schools in Surat follow either Gujarati or English as the medium of instruction.

Almost all the schools in Surat offer commerce, arts or science as optional subjects at class X. There are a number of government schools that lack many facilities but despite that are looked upon as a boon by the poorer students who can’t afford the more expensive private schools. The English medium schools such as Ryan International School, Essar International School, J.H. Ambani Saraswati Vidyamandir, and G.D. Goenka International School are popular with the majority of parents in Surat. “Educationam” is now a popular style of academic schooling gaining popularity in Surat. A professional institute for primary and higher secondary education where the students eventually specialize in Chartered Accountancy, the institute is the pride of Surat.
